PRET-A-PORTER

Art Show? Fashion show? Performance?

The appearance, the look of somebody or something as perceived by a passerby who has a quick glimpse is at the centre of this performance. How would it look like if the clothes could demonstrate a person’s mood, his emotions and the changes in mood he is subjected to in response to his surroundings? Prêt- à -porter is an effort to give flesh in these images, to visualize these concepts. To do so, we focused on the performers’ costumes, the relation between performer and costume and the ability of both to transform into something different on stage.

The performance is an extraordinary defile where instead of models, a number of significant moments in people’s lives parade; but neither the moments not the people are ordinary. These are persons who dare to dream and have the power to materialize their dreams, to transform them into reality.

And it is these moments of transformation that the audience witnesses: a kiss among a man and a woman makes the couple flourish and therefore, transform into a bouquet! In another case, a kiss among a swimmer and a frog makes them a couple. A sudden wind blow turns the ladies’ heads on the one hand and makes a couple tweets full of joy.

The transformations occur on stage through the transformation of the performers’ costumes. This defile consists of 60 costumes that account for a number of funny, sweet, irritating, extraordinary and imaginary incidents parading in front of the audience the same way models parade in a fashion defile.

Prêt-à-porter is a street theater performance which though can be staged in a venue as well.
